Powerball Winner Could Lose $560 Million Because She Wants to Remain Anonymous

A New Hampshire woman is on the verge of losing her $560 million Powerball jackpot she won in January. The Washington Post reports that the winner ‘Jane Doe’ wishes to remain anonymous when she collects her winnings, but that isn’t allowed and could forfeit her jackpot.

Hopefully this gets resolved soon because USA Today says the New Hampshire Lottery Commission states that everyday this matter is delayed she loses about $14,000 which is in interest.

According to the rules, the winning ticket holder is required to write their name, address, and phone number on the back of the ticket. This is where the problem lies because if  ‘Jane Doe’ wanted to remain anonymous if she won, she had to sign the ticket in the name of a trust. She wasn’t aware of the procedure after learning about it on the lottery website.

Her legal team requested to white out her name on the ticket, but the lottery commission would void out her winnings. A judge has not yet ruled on the decision as of yet.

What would you do in this situation?  Would you just accept the winnings and go public  - go buy and island and hide on it for a couple years - or continue to fight to remain anonymous and maybe lose your winnings in the process?
