Rihanna is Billboard’s No. 1 Artist — Are You Surprised?

It's been an amazing career so far for Rihanna.  She broke into the music scene in 2005 and now has managed to find herself in the #1 position on Billboards Pop Songs chart.

The music publication began the pop chart in 1992 and Billboard is now celebrating its 20th year and announcing the top artists that have appeared on the chart. Rihanna was bestowed the honor because of her success, she has appeared on the chart 34 times and 21 of those have been top 10 hits and has occupied the #1 spot with 9 songs.  Her latest hit "Diamonds" could make it 35 appearances in the top 10 and I have no doubt it'll be there soon.  Rihanna sent out the following tweet after learning about her new title:

What is surprising about the results to me is that Madonna and Mariah Carey are further down the list than I thought they would be.  Below is the list of the top 10 Billboard Pop Songs artists according to Billboard magazine:
