The Dallas Cowboys fired rambunctious defensive coordinator Rob Ryan on Tuesday, according to ESPN, the decision coming less than two weeks after the Cowboys missed the playoffs yet another season.

And Ryan is not happy about it.

Ryan, who reportedly was fired by Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett via cell phone while on vacation in the Turks & Caicos Islands, was confident he'll be hired soon.

"I inherited a team that was 31st in the league in defense and made them better," Ryan told ESPNDallas.com's Tim MacMahon. "I (expletive) made them a hell of a lot better. I'll be out of work for like five minutes."

Ryan's defense, which finished the 2012 season 19th in total defense (17th against the run and 21st against the pass), also was without five starters at the end of the season.

Ryan had one year remaining on a three-year contract for the Cowboys, who finished 8-8 for the second straight season and ended 2012 with a loss to the Washington Redskins for the NFC East championship.
