Robert Downey Jr. was none too pleased when a U.K. journalist pressed him during an Avengers interview. In fact, the Oscar-nominated actor walked off camera!
Krishnan Guru-Murthy of Channel 4 News started off the interview by asking about Avengers: Age of Ultron, loving superheroes as a kid, and how the current film fits in with the franchise. However, when Guru-Murthy said he wanted to ask about a quote Robert previously gave to the New York Times, the actor immediately looks uncomfortable.
At first, Robert calmly addresses the question, but Guru-Murthy continues to ask about the statement. It’s when the journalist references the actor’s former substance abuse that Robert cuts things short.
“I’m sorry, what are we doing?” Robert asked, before looking at someone out of shot and adding, “Bye.”
He stood up, removed his microphone and told the journalist, “It’s just getting a little Diane Sawyer in here,” before leaving the room.
Yiiiikes. We understand that Robert was clearly uncomfortable, but we’re still surprised to see him react this way. Unfortunately, his abrupt departure doesn’t appear to be another internet prank, like the time Jennifer Aniston chastised a reporter until he cried or Dennis Quaid staged an expletive-filled rant on a set. We can only hope that both he and the reporter learned from this awkward incident.
Any press is good press … right? In any case, you can catch Avengers: Age of Ultron when it hits theaters on May 1. The film also stars Chris Hemsworth, James Spader and Mark Ruffalo.
