American Idol's 15th and final season premiered last night (Jan. 6) and it had a very interesting contestant involved. Kanye West surprised many when a video surfaced of him auditioning on American Idol. Plenty of people wondered how this whole thing happened and host Ryan Seacrest decided to provide some information on how it all went down.

"So when we were shooting in San Francisco, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian were down street at an event and just wanted to come by," Ryan Seacrest wrote on Twitter. "We asked Kanye West if he’d be up for doing something on camera. He was game, so we sent him in without telling judges."

Kanye's audition brought some intrigue to American Idol, which has gone from one of the most watched shows on TV to an afterthought. Kanye stepped into the audition just like any other contestant.

"My name is Kanye. I'm from the Southside of Chicago," Kanye said. "Originally a producer, I always wanted to rap but nobody really believed in me."

The judges did their best to hold back their laughter at the whole thing while Kanye got ready to perform. Kanye performed his hit "Gold Digger" which provoked some funny reactions from Jennifer Lopez, who is name dropped in the song. The judges let Kanye know he's going to the next round, but one would imagine this will be his only cameo for the season.
