You are never too old to learn something new. I've eaten this holiday treat for many years, but never knew it's true meaning until now.

A principal was placed on administrative leave after telling fellow teachers not to use candy canes for decorations because the ‘J’ stands for Jesus...whaaatttt?

According to Fox 29, a memo was sent out to teachers in regards to what was acceptable and what was unacceptable in the classroom, and the following made the unacceptable list:

  • Santa
  • Christmas Trees
  • Reindeers
  • Green and Red items
  • Candy Canes

It doesn't even sound like Christmas with those missing items! Especially candy canes. Why ban candy canes? So I did some research and was surprised by what I learned.

According to Why Christmas the candy cane is shaped like the letter “J” which stands for Jesus, the red color symbolizes his blood when he died on the cross, and white is for purity.

The school mentioned using generic winter themed decorations like snowmen, scarves, and sledding.  Also, decorations from the movie “Frozen” would be acceptable as well.

Do you agree with their decision to ban these items?
