Summer's not even two weeks old and plans are already underway to get kids prepared for the next school year! This is news that the kids just don't want to hear because they want summer vacation to last forever, but parents must take time and get them ready though for the next year. The #schooliscool event will help students get ready for an awesome academic year.

This years' event will be held at Harvey Hall and the Rose Garden Center on Thursday, August 4th from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. It is a free event for students in pre-k through 12th grade. Vendors and non-profit organizations will be on hand distributing some very useful information to parents about their services. There will also be a limited supply of free backpacks filled with school supplies for kids. They must be present though and have obtained a ticket!

Other activities at #schooliscool include:

  • Free dental and vision screenings and education
  • Immunizations (call NETHealth for more information (903) 510-5604)
  • Presentations by the Tyler Fire and Police Departments
  • Fingerprinting
  • Free haircuts
  • Health and wellness information
  • Nutrition activities
  • Local after school programs
  • Extracurricular activities
  • College prep
  • Help applying for school lunch programs and transportation

Other activities may be added to the lineup as the summer progresses. So set the reminder in your phone for this fun free community event brought to you by the City of Tyler, NET Health, Tyler ISD, UT Tyler, TJC and others as part of the Tyler 1st program.
