The Texas Rose Festival will be held this week in Tyler, and that means fun for the whole family.

There are so many wonderful activities to take part in during Rose Season in Tyler and the surrounding areas. Here are few to take part in this week:

    The Brick Street Village - Roses in the Village

    Hosting a rose arrangement/bouquet contest with entries from Tyler area florists. Best entry will be determined by public voting entries found in Brick Street Village shops during Rose Festival Week. Several shops will offer activities showing how roses can be made from various ordinary items like wool, cotton, fabric, yarn, felt, paper and coffee filters. Touring shops free, but small to make roses. The Brick Street Village, S. College, S. Bois D'Arc, W. Phillips and W. Rusk Streets in Tyler.

    Roseland Plantation Tea and Historic Tours

    Four-course afternoon tea and historic plantation tour of Roseland Plantation/Hambrick House. Tea and Tour, $30 per person plus tax and gratuity; Tour only $8 per person; (reservation required for both.) www.roselandplantation.com

    Tyler Municipal Rose Garden Guided Tours

    An educational and guided tour of the Tyler Rose Garden with special emphasis on the features and variety of roses. Presented by a Rose Garden Docent Volunteer (typically a Master Gardener.) Free Admission. www.tylerparksandrec.com.

    Palette of Roses Art Show

    This is the annual Fall Art Show for the members of the Palette of Roses Art League. Fine art and sculpture will be displayed and for sale. Free Admission. Rose Museum Building. www.paletteofroses.org.

    Rose Nursery Tours

    Guided behind-the-scenes tour of a production rose nursery. Tours last approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Free admission. Chamblee's Rose Nursery. www.chambleeroses.com.

    The Great Gatsby at Tyler Civic Theatre

    Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, passionately pursues the elusive Daisy Buchanan in F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel. See Simon Leavy's adaptation, approved by the Fitzgerald Estate. Oct. 14-16, Friday-Sunday and Oct. 20-23, Thursday-Sunday. Evening Shows at 7:30 pm and Sunday Matinees at 2:30 pm. Admission is $18 for adults and $15 for students. www.tylercivictheatre.com.

    Rose Festival Arts and Crafts Fair

    More than 75 vendors will provide handmade items such as jewelry, art work, pottery, woodwork, metal craft, photography, plants and more. Free admission. Southside Park/Rose Rudman Trail. www.tylerparksandrec.com.
