Update 12:30 p.m.

A line of showers and thunderstorms is moving north through East Texas. Small hail, winds gusting near 70mph and lots of lightning and rain expected as these storms move through the area. The severe thunderstorm watch is expected to be expanded to add more counties in NE Texas later this afternoon.

Update 10:30 a.m.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued until 5 p.m. today for Cherokee, Gregg, and Smith Counties.

Later this afternoon showers and thunderstorms will develop across East Texas as an upper air disturbance slides through the area. As this disturbance moves through, there will be enough energy available that a few of the storms could become severe. The main threats will be from heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and hail.

There will be another chance of severe storms late tomorrow and Wednesday morning as a cold front moves through the area. The threat with those storms will once again be heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and hail.

We will keep you posted on any and all severe weather warnings that may be issued for East Texas.
