Early voting turnout for Tuesday’s General Election set a record for Smith County.

Smith County election officials reported 50,567 ballots were cast for the 2012 election, compared to the previous record set in 2008 with 46,373 early votes.

Texas Secretary of State Hope Andrade said Texas reached a record number of registered voters on the Official List of Registered Voters. Nearly 14 million Texans are registered voters; the highest number in state history.

“I want to thank all Texans who registered to vote this year and all Texans who are already registered voters”. The next step is getting to the polls during on Election Day,” said Secretary Andrade.

Election Day is tomorrow, Nov. 6. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
