Sylvia Yacoub Lights Up ‘The Voice’ with Alicia Keys’ ‘Girl On Fire’
Tonightâs episode of the ‘The Voice‘ (Nov. 19) kicked off with a bang as Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton performed their powerful duet of âJust a Foolâ from Aguileraâs brand-new album, âLotus.â Then Team Christinaâs Sylvia Yacoub took the stage to deliver her cover of Alicia Keysâ âGirl On Fire.â
Yacoubâs rehearsals were watched closely by both her coach and A&R executive Ron Fair, who signed Aguilera to her very first record deal. âShe has a God-given instrument, but she has to have the confidence to let it go,â Fair remarked. The singer once believed she was destined for law school, but her path changed drastically when she realized that music was her true calling.
Her powerful, piano-driven rendition of the song was a show-stopper, impressing all of the judges. Cee Lo Green commented that it was âa solid performance, as usual.â In Adam Levineâs words, âThat was by far the most polished, refined, and in-control performance Iâve seen you do ⦠Iâm totally blown away.â
Shelton was quick to agree with his fellow judges. âPeople are gonna have a hard time forgetting about that performance; it was so spot-on,â he said. âYou were on fire!â Aguilera exclaimed happily, âYou took this home ⦠You have it all, you blew me away.â
Now it’s up to you, the viewers, to determine if she has what it takes to win. Every vote counts, so be sure to cast yours!
