Arrow Season 4 certainly stepped up on villainy from the previous year with the addition of Neal McDonough’s Damien Darhk, but Season 5 will of course require a brand-new big bad to complete Oliver’s five-year saga. To wit, the first details of the new series regular villain have arrived, teasing a charming contemporary to Oliver with a tragic past and a propensity to snap a few necks.

Never quite reaching the pinnacle of its first two years, Arrow has nonetheless bounced back from Season 3 criticism in all but the series’ flashbacks, increasingly seen as a burden on the show. Now, producers acknowledge the difficulty of keeping Oliver’s past adventures relevant, promising the fifth season to have a more decisive plan in place, and potentially tipping to their location as well.

Arrow Season 4 may not have revealed the mystery occupant of that grave flash-forward (fingers crossed, Wednesday!), but at least one cast member’s workload will only increase for Season 5.
