Twelve-year-old Olivia Manning (not pictured) is a freaking genius. With an IQ of 162, this pre-teen savant is proving to be one of the greatest minds since Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking.

Manning recently scored two points higher on her I.Q. test than the father of the atomic age, Albert Einstein, and black-hole theorist Stephen Hawking, ranking her intelligence in the top 1 percent in the world.

As Christmas break approaches and the semester ends, the changing of majors begins. While majoring in Art History seemed like a novel idea as a freshman, it may not make the best career choice. Same for Psychology. If you're going to spend 30k or more on a degree, might as well be one that's useful right? "Fine" you say, "but what do I change it to?"

New High School Allows Students to Earn College Degree and Land Job with IBM

The IBM International Foundation and the New York City Public Schools have collaborated to create the new Pathways in Technology Early College High School, which will open in September.

Dubbed “P-Tech,” students can earn a standard four-year diploma, or opt to stay for two extra years — after which they’ll graduate with an associate’s degree in computer science from CUNY’s College of Technology (City Tech) for free. They can then continue their studies at City Tech, attend other colleges and apply the credits they’ve already earned, or be considered for employment by IBM’s IT department and at other companies.

Twitter skills are going to score one student a full ride to The University of Iowa’s Henry B. Tippie School of Management.

To win the $37,200-a-year scholarship, applicants have to answer one of their essay questions within Twitter’s 140 character limit. The Trippie School’s website does encourage that links to other social media “such as blogs, video, Facebook, or a web page” be included in the Tweet, to show the applicants’ creativity.

If you don't know by now tomorrow, March 1st, 2011 TAKS (TAKS stands for the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skill) are going to be given for the following grades:
Grade 4 Writing (English and Spanish)
Grade 7 Writing
Grade 9 Reading

Most Students Not Ready For College

According to a new study, most students are not ready for college.

Researchers took a look at kids graduating from high schools in the state of Michigan and found that -- in half of those schools -- fewer than 10 percent of the graduates were prepared for higher education. Ouch, read more after the jump.
