June 28, 2012 The 4th of July is coming up Wednesday and firework stands have opened up all around East Texas. In my neighborhood alone, there are four stands selling the them and I'm sure I'll be stopping by one of them soon to buy some because my daughter has asked when we're buying fireworks! She began asking the day she saw those portable stands show up on the roadside.

June 25, 2012 Summer is great in Texas, on boats and at the pool. It’s all fun and games until somebody gets a nasty, blistering sunburn.
I got one of those several years ago at Lake Travis in Austin. My back was bare while I was on a boat with friends, I didn’t put an ounce of sunscreen on it, and I laid on a raft for about two hours. The next day, if it had been the time period where it was cool to type OMG, that would have been my choice of acronyms. Or perhaps IMBOF (is my back on fire). And yes, I made that up.

June 22, 2012 Gas prices here in East Texas were around $3.82 in mid-April and now two and a half months later prices have fallen around $0.70 here in East Texas. Now, don't get me wrong $3.15 a gallon is still on the high side for gas, but it's cheaper than it was a couple of months ago and with lower gas prices, AAA says there will be more people on the road for the 4th of July holiday weekend than in the past decade.
