"Smooth" was featured on Santana's album Supernatural back in 1999 and seemed to revive Santana's career. The collaboration features Santana on guitar and Rob Thomas on vocals. Rob Thomas wrote the song and had George Michael in mind to sing it! The song ended up winning 3 Grammy Awards including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. They are the band with the funny name and their biggest hit is today's Mix 93-1 Retro Video of the Day! Chumbawamba have actually been together since the early '80's but it wasn't until 1997 when they went mainstream with "Tubthumping". He's the record holder for the most consecutive wins in a single category in the Grammy Awards, he's won 4 "Best Male Rock Vocal Performance" grammy's - 1999 to 2002. Sinead O'Connor has been in music since the '80's but it wasn't until 1990 when she broke out on the scene with "Nothing Compares 2 U" from her album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got. Since then she's been involved with a number of artists working with them on writing music and also recording songs too. One of her latest collaborations was with Mary J. Blige. Seal has been recording since the early '90's, his first big hit came in 1991 with "Crazy" and in 1995 he hit it big again with "Kiss From A Rose" that also appeared on the soundtrack to Batman Forever and won him 3 Grammy awards too! At first you think "Who's that"! But when you hear it, you go, "Ah, yeah I do remember that one"! It's from the German band that formed in the early '80's and it was really their only hit. The video was set in a bar with a black and white tv and the band and eventually used in Volkswagen commercials in the late '90's. Melissa Etheridge has won an Oscar Award, 2 Grammy Awards, a Juno award and several others throughout her career, that dates back to the 80's but her success took off in the mid 90's when she released her album Yes I Am which scored the hits "Come To My Window" and "I'm The Only One". In the early days, Rob Thomas, Brian Yale and Paul Doucette were part of the band Tabitha's Secret before recruiting Adam Gaynor to form Matchbox Twenty back in the mid 90's in Orlando, FL. The band is currently in the studio working on their 5th studio album which should be available late this year or early next year. Matchbox Twenty has been nominated to win Grammy's, MTV VMAs and have won a People's Choice Award in addition to selling millions of albums. Def Leppard's Pyromania album produced "Photograph", which turned the band into a household name in 1983 and then in 1987 we got Hysteria which gave us "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Hysteria", "Armadeddon It", "Animal" and today's Mix 93-1 Retro Video "Love Bites".

I read today that Thomas Dolby will be releasing his first new album in more than 20 years. It'll be titled Map Of The Floating City and in hearing this news I decided to feature him and this song at the Mix 93-1 Retro Video of the Day.
