This weekend is going to be a scorcher and it's going to feel like the sun is burning a hole right through us, and maybe it is. You won't believe how high Texas ranks when it comes to skin cancer risk.
A transit is an event in which the planet moves directly between the earth and the sun. This means if you look at the sun (with a special filter as to not blind yourself), you can see the planet move across the surface of the sun. This type of event is much rarer than a meteor shower.
Well, if this ain't creepy. In 2014, the sun was captured by one of our observatories looking like a jack-o-lantern in October. But why are we just now being shown this? I speculate.
East Texas has seen its fare share of rain and severe weather this spring. It's been one of the wettest years on records, and one that has caused much pain and destruction for many East Texas families.
