Have you driven by a Tyler gas station lately and done a double take to make sure you're not seeing things? Prices at some stations have dropped below the $3 mark. It seems odd to cheer for gas, but it kinda makes ya wanna say, "Woohoo!" Especially if you're traveling for Christmas.

In mid to late November, gas prices in East Texas were about 15 cents higher than they are now. A gallon of gas averages about $3.10 in Texas, down from $3.25 around Thanksgiving.

Where Did That Turkey Come From?

Texas doesn't have bragging rights in terms of the biggest turkey-producing states, but it does produce its share.

Nine to ten million Texas turkeys are produced each year, and most of those come from Central and East-Central Texas, according to a map from Smithsonian Magazine.

Texas Voters Get Help From New App

Maybe you've got a reminder for just about everything set on your phone. Now you can set a reminder to vote!

A new app is available for Texas voters that reminds you to vote, lets you check to make sure you're registered, and helps you check for polling locations in Smith County, or any neighboring county where you might be registered to vote. It was just released this week by the Secretary of State's Office, and we've got the link to go download it.

Have you planned your Trick-or-Treating attack yet?

Most families seem to take the kids in costume to houses in their own neighborhoods, but others have been known to drive well out of their way just to hunt down the best candy. Once the word starts to spread that a neighborhood passes out full-size Snickers, that's where the mini-vans head!

So where are the best spots to Trick-or-Treat? Strangely enough, everywhere BUT Texas. Isn't everything supposed to be bigger here? Apparently the Halloween candy is not.

The Texas Rangers have been leading their division almost the whole baseball season, and now after 161 games, the Rangers and A's have identical records, and today's game will decide who the division champ is, and who gets the better playoff spot. It's come down to the wire.

Halloween is Scary — Oh, That's the Point!

My spouse and I have been together for 14 years, and at points along the way I've mentioned not being particularly fond of the scary parts of Halloween. So by now it should be known right?

I like the cute parts of Halloween! Like the cute, cuddlely kid costumes and the nice, harmless pumpkins.

It was a big mistake letting the spouse take the kids shopping for Halloween decorations.

Texas Loves Its Frito Pie

I have to admit, I didn't try the delicacy that is Frito pie until I moved to Texas. Growing up in Nebraska we sometimes mixed chili, cheese, and saltine crackers together, but the genius of replacing the Saltines with Fritos just didn't occur to us.

Texans are onto something! Frito Pie is delicious, and who cares how fattening.

We Texans broke a Guiness World Record on Monday with a Frito Pie that weighed over a thousand pounds. Some states might be ashamed, but in Texas its a badge we wear proudly. We just may need a Tums to go with our badge.

Kids Cost Big Bucks

They're out with those numbers again, about how much it costs to raise a child from age 0 to 17.

Parents will swallow hard...the US Dept. of Agriculture says it takes $234,900 to raise a kid, including food, shelter, and necessities. Depending upon your definition and your child's definition of necessities, it could be $2 million, right? A kid has to have his Wii.

Texas is actually one of the cheapest places in the US to raise a child.

If it's true, the obvious answer may be because of the number of transplants that live in Texas. When a Chicago native moves to Texas they bring a northern accent and a lot of those people together can sort of squeeze out and disperse the yee haws.

Texas 12-Year Old Banned From Playing Football

Six feet tall and 300 pounds sounds like a good size to play football. But apparently that’s too big at age 12, and in that case league rules say the boy will have to stay on the sidelines.

Fox Sports Southwest did a story that many media outlets are covering, on the 12-year old boy from Mesquite, near Dallas, who was told after a weigh-in Sunday that he wouldn’t be able to play.

Solar Eclipse This Sunday Will be Partial in Texas

An eclipse like this only happens once every twenty years, and it will be viewable in Texas Sunday; partially anyway.

A solar eclipse is when the moon blocks out the sun for a time, and leaves a ring of fire around its circumference. The sky gets a little spooky-looking for a bit and then the moon and sun part like a good Dancing with the Stars release move, and life goes back to normal.

Spots like Reno, NV and Albuquerque, NM will have the most spectacular views of the complete eclipse, but the entire path of the eclipse stretches from China to Texas. Plenty of folks will have the opportunity to see the rare show of nature.
