Tegan and Sara Debut Glossy New Single ‘Boyfriend’

After unloading a couple of previews, Tegan and Sara have premiered “Boyfriend,” the lead single from their forthcoming album, Love You to Death, in full.

“Boyfriend” has a foothold in the same soaring ‘80s synth-pop that drove the duo’s 2013 full-length Heartthrob and its breakthrough hit “Closer” while maintaining the confessional songwriting style that has been the band’s calling card since early-aughts albums like If It Was You. “It’s a pretty straightforward pop song about a relationship that I was getting into with a girl who had never dated a girl before,” Sara Quin told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe. “We’ve all be in that situation where we really like someone and want to make it official and they’re not ready.”

Love You to Death is out June 3 via Warner Bros. Starting tomorrow (April 8), you’ll be able to pre-order the album and immediately receive “Boyfriend” and another instant-grat track, “U-Turn.”
