Isn’t it great how we can always count on a crazy person to do something crazy at the Grammys? And then all the media breathlessly covers it like they have never heard the words “publicity stunt”? Anyway, here are five crazy things that happened at the Grammys over the years.

During Bob Dylan’s 1998 Grammy Performance of “Love Sick,” a shirtless man with the words “Soy Bomb” written across his chest somehow got onstage and spazzed out for a solid 30 seconds. He later told reporters,

“Soy… represents dense nutritional life. Bomb is, obviously, an explosive destructive force. So, soy bomb is what I think art should be: dense, transformational, explosive life.”

Oh. Cool.

The late Wu Tang Clan member Ol’ Dirty Bastard crashed the stage at the 1998 Grammys during Shawn Colvin’s acceptance speech for Song of the Year. He famously declared “Wu Tang is for the children,” among other insane things, over a decade before Kanye would pull some similar nonsense at the 2010 MTV Music Awards.

Pearl Jam tried their best to personify that Seattle ambivalence with a giant, “Dude, whatever” as their Grammy acceptance speech. We personally like how the nerdier band member with the glasses tries his best to thank the appropriate people after Eddie Vedder’s rambling nonsense.

50 Cent’s all like, “LOL, just passing through” in this clip of Evanescence’s acceptance speech for Best New Artist.

Amy Winehouse actually looks pretty together in this video from 2008, considering she looks more like a human being than an animatronic character in an amusement park horror ride. But she’s still pretty out of it.
