Maybe you remember a time when you were a little kid, and someone told you "you'd never amount to much." Or if they didn't outright say it, they showed you with their attitudes and/or actions.

Or, there may have been a day in your teenage life, when you noticed that you were a bit different from the perceived "cool" or "smart" kids. You may have made a false agreement with yourself that you were "just average."  You may have even been bullied.

Perhaps as an adult, you feel you've missed your opportunity to find what truly drives and motivates you to live a life greater than the one you're living now.

None of these things are true about you.

Look, I have no desire to present you with pleasant-sounding cliches designed to convince you life can magically transform into whatever you want, like some kind of Pollyanna-infused psycho-freak. Changing one's life is hard, hard work and it takes time and resilience and determination. However, I do know this to be true:

I don't care where you are right now in this moment or how young or old you imagine yourself to be, you can always overcome the odds and you can change the course of your life.

In fact, when it comes to the stories we love the most--whether in a book, movie, or even the ones told in our own families--isn't it always the ones that start with the unlikely hero that touch us most deeply?

There seems to be something set deep within the "marrow of life" that means each of us WILL be faced with challenges of varying kinds. We may then set out to overcome them--if we choose. We don't have to, of course. We can accept the status quo and go along with what life seems to have assigned to us. Most of us have done this at some point or another. But. You don't have to accept and go along with the judgments that you or others have made upon your life. You don't have to resign yourself to the hand you feel you've been dealt. You can choose differently. You really, really can.

One of my very favorite poets, Robert Frost, is known for this beloved passage from his poem The Road Not Taken:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

Speaking of overcoming the odds, I'd like to share a video with you, produced by Jubilee Media, that is an epic example. What an incredible story--and the production is excellent. :)

Take the road less traveled, my friend.
