City of Tyler Mayor Barbara Bass has a vision of planting 5,000 trees within the next five years. Today her vision takes off as volunteers will plant over 300 trees at five different Tyler locations. All trees will be 15-gallon and will range from 8 to 16 feet tall. The types of trees being planted are Shumard Oaks, Redbuds, Cedar Elms and River Burch.

Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. in front of the Harvey Convention Center at 2000 West Front Street for a brief break down of the days events, which will include the distribution of planting assignments and locations. Volunteers should bring their own shovels and gloves since there will not be enough to go around.

Participants will receive coffee and juice as well as free bagels to get them going. The first 300 people to show will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
