Purple is the color that’s become attached to pancreatic cancer awareness campaigns. Pictured is the memorial for Patrick Swayze, when he died of pancreatic cancer in 2009.

East Texans gathered Sunday to raise money and awareness for one person from Tyler who has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. And they attempted to break a world record by doing it.

Ross Sajo is a parent of three who was diagnosed four years ago with pancreatic cancer.

A group worked of friends, family, and supporters worked for hours Sunday to make lumpia – which is a Filipino egg roll – and not just one, but hundreds. In fact, at one point there were three hundred people rolling these egg rolls, according to KTRE

The Guinness folks will have to certify that the record has been broken, but if nothing else this was a huge show of support for a fellow East Texan in need. The money from the $10 registration fees will go to a fund established to help Ross with expenses during treatment.

If you missed the fundraiser and would still like to donate to the cause, visit Southside Bank and donate to “Team Ross.”
