We posted the story recently about the former US Marine who drowned in the Texas Hill Country trying to rescue two teens, and now the City of Bandera is looking for ways to honor him.

Retired Master Sgt. Rodney Buenetello died June 8th after rescuing two teens who had fallen into the Medina River at Bandera City Park in the Texas Hill Country. After he brought them safely to shore, he was dragged under by the currents and drowned before authorities could reach him.

There is a Go Fund Me account that’s been set up to help the family with funeral costs and other financial needs. And now the City of Bandera says it's looking for ways to pay respects to the fallen hero. They may put up a plaque or flagpole at the park as a memorial, or it's possible they could change the name of the park to something that includes Buenetello's name.

The girl who fell into the water and was eventually rescued by Buenetello may face fines for walking on the dam, which violates a city ordinance. Bandera has put up fencing to keep people off the dam for the time being and they'll continue to monitor it, to keep tragedies like this from happening in the future.
