Valentines Day For Singles (AKA Singles Awareness Day)
For those of us who don't have a significant other, Valentine's Day can be a big slap in the face. For us singles we call it Singles Awareness Day. And seeing all of the romance, hearing all the love songs, and all the love in the air makes you want to gag. Being recently single just before Valentines Day, I know that feeling all too well. Instead of spending my Valentines Day curled up in bed wallowing in self-pity, I'm going to do one of these things on this list- and you should too. Show the world you aren't a woman who needs a man, but a woman a man needs (vice-versa for men).
When all of your friends are out blowing all of their money and spoiling someone else, use your money to spoil yourself. Ladies- take the day to go buy a new outfit, or get a manicure/pedicure. Men- buy yourself that nice watch you've been eyeing for the last few weeks, or head to Gander Mountain and get all of the hunting gear a woman would just gripe at you for getting. Spoil the one person in your life that you know you can count on- yourself! You deserve it.
Who wants to be out at a boring dinner and a movie with just one person when you can go out and have a good time with your closest friends? Girls- grab your girlfriends and go out to eat, head to the mall and do some shopping, then head home for a movie and wine night. Guys- get your buds and head to the local sports bar, get a beer, and watch a game.
I have learned that the only man I can lean on in my life is my dad. When I was in middle school and high school, he would send me flowers and candy to class every Valentines day. Ladies, take your dad out to dinner and show him how much you love him. Men, take your mom out and spoil her and show her how much you appreciate everything she's done for you.
The best gift in the world is knowing that you made someone else's day. So send some flowers to a co-worker, friend, or someone you know is in need of a smile. Or you can even get them a giant teddy bear. Make yourself feel good, by making someone else feel good.
Who needs Valentines Day when you can celebrate Singles Awareness Day? Get all your friends together and have a big anti-valentines party, and celebrate the fact you don't need a significant other in your life. Show the world that you are perfectly happy being independent.
