Firefighters from all over the nation and around the world will once again be descending upon Tyler for the annual Firefighter's Combat Challenge. For the past few years firefighters have been challenged to a firefighting obstacle course that is set up on the parking lot at Broadway Square Mall and represents five tasks that all firefighters must master.

The simulated fire scene challenges are:

  • high rise hose drag
  • hose hoist
  • forcible entry
  • hose advance
  • victim rescue

The challenge is based on a university based research study and today is a test that many departments use to identify potential applicants.

Attending the event on Friday, October 4th  or Saturday, October 5th is free to the public. Event organizers are looking for volunteers to help during the event. If you'd like to volunteer you can contact Shari Rickman at 903.592.6979
