Why ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ Almost Never Aired
For many, it's just not Christmas until you watch 'A Charlie Brown Christmas', but did you know it almost never aired? Can you imagine no Snoopy! And you won't believe who helped saved it. Back in 1963 a TV producer had the idea to do a documentary on Charles Schultz and his Peanuts comic strip. The documentary never sold, but Coca-Cola was still interested and asked if they could do a Christmas special. Schultz agreed and the special was done. The only problem was CBS hated it. But they'd promised the sponsors and it aired for the first time on December 9, 1965. And the rest is history.
