‘X-Files’ in ‘Significant Talks’ for New Season, Potentially 8-10 Episodes

X Files Season 11 Talks 8 Episodes
FOX

FOX did its best to restore The X-Files to its former glory by the returns of Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny and Chris Carter, even if the final product felt notably rushed and uneven. Season 11 remains an open possibility, as FOX claims to be in “significant talks” with all three cornerstones, with intent toward a longer season.

As updated by FOX boss David Madden at the TCA press tour (Via TVLine), those “significant talks” are understandably beholden to complicated scheduling between the three integral leads. “We would obviously love to do another season [but] schedules are hard. We’re working hard to get this done.”

On the plus side at least, co-head Dana Walden says that a new season would ideally run longer than the six-episode run this past year, potentially as high as ten hours:

We would have liked to have done more [episodes] in the first place. It was really the limitations of David and Gillian and Chris’ schedules. Gillian lives in the UK, David lives in New York and California, and we do the show in Vancouver. Chris lives up north. So it was just trying to coordinate a time where they all carve out a period to be in Vancouver … We’re in conversations that intentionally we could do more. I don’t imagine it being a full season of The X-Files, but I would be really happy if we were able to get eight to 10 episodes.

David Duchovny agreed as much in his own recent comments, while Anderson claimed not to have been approached about further episodes. At the very least, Walden also noted that new episodes wouldn’t need as much time to refresh viewers on the characters and mythology, but will that be true by the time more X-Files finally happens?
