Nine years of Scrubs and multiple movies earned star Zach Braff his pick of projects, though it seems the erstwhile Dr. Dorian has been paged back to ABC. Braff has confirmed a TV return with a new ABC single-camera comedy, given a put-pilot commitment.

Deadline broke word that Braff will star in and direct new ABC comedy Start Up (likely to change, given a shared Crackle series name), reuniting with Scrubs co-executive producer Matt Tarses. The series is based on the likewise-named podcast Start Up from Alex Blumberg, showcasing the good and bad of a mid-30s man with a wife and kids quitting his job to start a new business.

Braff will direct the pilot episode, in addition to starring, also executive producing with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox. For his part, the actor-writer-director also has 2017 heralding the arrival of his new movie Going In Style, starring Morgan Freeman, Alan Arkin and Michael Caine.

Scrubs has certainly opened up enough channels with ABC for Braff’s TV return, but could the new series last as long on the table?
