Did You Know Austin, Texas Debuted This Type Of Air Conditioning?

When the sun is beating down on Texas, we all need the air conditioning to work.

Triple digit temperatures are nothing that any Texan that wants to deal with. Not only is being hot difficult to deal with, nobody likes clothes that are wet due to sweat. Thankfully, we can rely on the air conditioning now and again to cool off.

But it wasn't normal to have a regular AC unit in one's home before. Normally, as revealed by MySA, a Texan would have a window unit to assist in the cooling of one's self. But one year, in the city of Austin, Texas, an event happened that changed the course of air conditioning technology.

For one village in Central Texas, air conditioning took a new form not seen before.

Austin's Air Conditioned Village Sets A New Standard

As revealed by MySA, the village was built in the 1950s. These brand new 22 homes were used in various experimental ways to see how they could cool down somebody trying to get away from the Texas heat. Things like attic fans and the use of various forms of shade were used, which was a type of central air conditioning the state and nation hadn't seen before.

What's more surprised you ask? These homes were set around a price of $12,000, with 20 being purchased by interested individuals. What's even more surprised is that some of the house are intact, 15 to be exact.

While attempts have been made to make the area a Historical marker, MySA revealed that only white individuals were able to buy these houses. Whether that has an effect on the attempt to make the homes a historical marker has yet to be revealed.
