Christmas in East Texas brings out the best in people and Saturday (December 21st) hundreds gathered together around concrete pillars with lights for the 9th Annual Christmas Under the Bridge.

According to the Tyler Paper, this yearly event takes place under the Gentry Parkway Bridge, on South Broadway Avenue.

The first event happened in 2011 as Heidi Eslicker’s son Jason, and friends Jim Mullicane and Evan Haynes, moved to help feel the homeless and as their ministry grew they hosted their first Christmas Under the Bridge and fed hundreds of East Texans each week.

Volunteers were on hand to help serve close to 700 meals and Heidi is looking for even more volunteers because of the life changing opportunity.

Christmas is about the birth of Jesus which offers hope and promise to, let’s face it, a hurting world and it’s about celebrating the hope we have with his birth. We’re celebrating with friends and neighbors, bringing community together.
