While East Texans Have Literally Been Begging For HEB To Come To Our Area, I Wonder Why...

While we're all excited to get back together with family and friends for Thanksgiving, one aspect about the holiday I believe is being forgotten about: THE SHOPPING CHAOS.

I've been living in East Texas for about 2 years now and I see every day how folks in our area want an HEB badly but I have to ask after spending a day shopping inside one of their locations the day before one of the biggest holidays of the year the following question: Are yall SURE YALL WANT THIS?

The Following Is A First Hand Account Of An East Texan Shopping At HEB On Thanksgiving Eve.

Twas the night before Thanksgiving and I was in Killeen, Texas visiting my family when my wife decided it would be fun to send me to the store to pick up the last few items she needs for dinner. Fun Fact: we live literally 500 yards away from a Wal Mart but like every Texan, my wife requested that I get the items from HEB on the other side of town. Like the good husband I try to be, I obliged not realizing I was in for a grumpy time.

After Pulling Into The PACKED Parking Lot I Made My Way Inside.

This HEB location boasts its own " True Texas BBQ" restaurant which also features cold beer but this was made for folks like me that don't want to shop but get dragged along into the store anyway so at least have a brisket sandwich and brew while you wait but unfortunately I'm the one that's shopping so no chill for me.

Packed Aisles Everywhere

As expected, the store was packed with folks trying to pick up their last minute items and apparently I wasn't the only husband who got sent on this hellish mission because all throughout the store, you seen guys with confused looks on their faces or staring at their phones trying to figure out if their getting the right stuff.

"I Don't Know What Kind You Want" or "I'm not buying that" can be overheard several times as folks (men) struggled to get the EXACT item requested.....for example:

Not ANY Product Will Do, You Gotta Get THIS SPECIFIC KIND

The photo above is not an endorsement or ad for Hellman's Real Mayo, its the photo I texted to my wife to verify that I had the EXACT BRAND OF MAYO she requested I buy. Also, my sons and I have learned the difference between WHIPPED CREAM and WHIPPING CREAM after purchasing the wrong ones....speaking of which, we'll return to this in minute.

Naturally, Certain Items Were Sold Out.

One of the reasons I was sent to HEB over the conveniently close Wally World was because my wife wanted an apple pie and IT HAD TO BE FROM HEB. Well, they were sold out when I went and once again, I sent this photo to her for visual verification.

Highlights At This Location Include Their Famous "Meal Deals".

Now one good thing about HEB is their "Meal Deals" where they basically assemble everything you need to make for dinner and if you buy ONE of the items needed, you'll get the rest for free like this tamale meal deal which would save you over $10 bucks.

I Survived HEB Shopping On Thanksgiving Eve

Before making my way to checkout, you remember the WHIPPING CREAM I had to pickup? Well as I was looking for that, I let go of my shopping cart with the few little items I fought to acquire only to look back and see that someone TOOK MY CART AWAY FROM ME. I'm serious. I couldn't help but to laugh instead of being upset because I probably did their shopping for them.

Again I ask: Are You SURE Yall Want This Kind Of Chaos?

After all that and seeing folks blatantly disregard the "15 items or less" rule in quick checkout, getting my basket taken away and the general chaos of it all, I wonder if yall REALLY want to put yourselves through the HEB experience if it comes to East Texas? The answer is probably "Yeah" so enjoy yourselves and don't say I didn't warn you.

H-E-B just keeps getting cooler and cooler making East Texans even more jealous we don't have one.

We love our East Texas owned businesses. But there's nothing wrong with enjoying a national chain, either.

Reality Show that Best Matches an East Texas City

We decided to have a little fun and match several East Texas cities with a reality show that best encapsulates that town. Have a sense of humor with some of the matches, please.
