Beginning this evening, the famous jewelry collection of Elizabeth Taylor is going up on the auction block.  Among the prized possessions is a 33.19 carat Krupp diamond which she received from her husband Richard Burton.

The auction is actually being divided up and spread out over 4 days and is being conducted by Christie's of New York.  Tonights auction features the legedary jewels.  Wednesdays auction features more of Taylor's jewelry and her Haute Couture collection.  Thursday evenings auction will be featuring her fashion and accessories and the final auction on Friday will be her film memorabelia and fine and decorative art including costumes.

The jewelry collection is expected to bring in around $30 million dollars and the entire collection of Elizabeth Taylor goods is expected to bring in more than $50 million.  A portion of the proceeds is going to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
