If you have ever seen at least a couple of Tom Cruise movies, it will come as no surprise to you when I say the guy likes to run onscreen. Like, a lot. It’s his version of Humphrey Bogart’s overcoat or John Wayne’s hat. It’s his calling card, his signature. It wouldn’t be a true Tom Cruise film without it. His hair gets longer or shorter, he gets older and gains a couple of wrinkles. But the running never changes.

But just how much running has Tom Cruise done onscreen? The heroes of Burger Fiction performed the difficult task of quantifying that by supercutting every single shot of Tom Cruise running in all of his movies and compiling them into one surprisingly long video. Over his 30 year career, when you put together all the shots of Cruise running, they add up to 18 minutes and 10 seconds. Most at the pace of a dead sprint. I’m out of breath just watching that clip. I’m pretty sure I haven’t done this much running in my entire life.

Of course, this video will only be current for a few more days. The latest Tom Cruise movie/aerobic workout, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, opens this Friday. And I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say, he does a fair amount of running in this movie. And by fair, I mean a lot. At one point the cameraman looks like he’s having a hard time keeping up with him.
