Genetically Modified Mosquitoes could be Released in Texas
What the hell is this? So scientists have genetically modified mosquitoes so they will mate, but the offspring dies, which, in theory, will reduce the spread of the disease they carry. This smells like a disaster in the making.
So here are the facts from myhighplains.com: a company called Oxitec has received a permit from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to release genetically modified mosquitoes in Texas and Florida. There hope is the modified male mosquitoes will mate with the female mosquitoes, which are the ones that carry the dengue, chikungunya, and yellow fevers along with the Zika virus, but the offspring end up dying, reducing the risk of catching these fevers and virus.
Do you want zombies? Because this is how you get zombies! Has no one watched Resident Evil, or The Walking Dead or any other movie about trying to control a virus? Yeah, that didn't work out too well, did it?
I'm sure their hearts are in the right place but I do not like this at all. I can see this not working and we end up with steroid infused flying insects like in Family Guy.
You laugh, but with the way 2020 has gone, this ain't the time for that. Forget the Murder Hornets, we'll have this:
Let's not do this and just let some good ole deet prevent the bites. Thanks scientists for your work but we'll pass.
