Leona Lewis seemed to be on the verge of superstardom in 2008 when she hit No. 1 with ‘Bleeding Love,’ which earned her comparisons to Mariah Carey, but she hasn’t scored a Top 10 hit in the U.S. since. Now Lewis is back with a new song called ‘Trouble’ featuring a verse from rapper Childish Gambino.

The slightly dark mid-tempo ballad focuses on a relationship in turmoil. Over dramatic keyboards and an urgent drum beat, Lewis paints the picture of a pair of lovers who seem like they’re not going to be able to make things work.

Lewis sings, “I told you never to get used to me / I stay awake when you fall asleep / I’m a whole lot of trouble / We’re in a whole lot of trouble / I told you you should never follow me / But here we are and you’re in too deep / I’m a whole lot of trouble / We’re in a whole lot of trouble.”

Gambino replies with the guy’s perspective, rapping, “But is it lying if you know that they don’t want the truth? / Is it cheating if you work it while she in the room? / Now you mad at the screen / We were something together, I wouldn’t call it a team / Just big trouble and little kindness.”

‘Trouble’ will appear on Lewis’ third album ‘Glassheart,’ which is expected to hit stores later this year after several delays and will most likely include ‘Collide,’ her collaboration with EDM star Avicii. Last year, Lewis released ‘Hurt: The EP,’ which included covers of the Goo Goo Dolls and Nine Inch Nails.
