Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom was arrested earlier this week, just after the site was shut down by the Department of Justice — but he didn’t go down without a fight. Police officers found Dotcom, real name Kim Schmitz, hiding in a safe room in his home with a loaded shotgun in hand.

Pitchfork reports that the German entrepreneur was picked up in his New Zealand pad by an actual swarm of police, even helicopters, but he didn’t answer the door or invite them in for a cup of tea. Instead, Dotcom hid in a secret room and protected himself with many crazy electronic locks, which the cops had to cut through.

An Organized and Financial Crime Agency official reported, “Despite our staff clearly identifying themselves, Mr. Dotcom retreated into the house and activated a number of electronic-looking mechanisms.” The Wall Street Journal says that the Megaupload founder was cradling a shotgun when he was arrested, but he was arrested nonetheless.

Police seized a full lot of cars and at least two other firearms from his mansion, and arrests and seizures were made at the Megaupload headquarters.
