Here come all of those holiday parties! Some of us sincerely look forward to the onslaught of social interaction and some suffer from downright anxiety contemplating all of the "people-gathering" this time of year. Either way, it is a common courtesy to bring a gift to the host whenever a party is in someone's home.

Don't let wondering what on earth to bring as a gift become another source of stress for you. A bottle of wine is always a nice gesture. However, you may want to bring something a little different.

Remember, when it comes to gift-giving, it's thoughtful to consider the person. If you know someone is trying to avoid drinking or perhaps they are a burgeoning chef, the gift you bring should reflect that.

Here are a few ideas for your consideration:

A packet of 5 to 10 of your favorite recipes alongside one of them, prepared.

Bring one of your favorite holiday candles for them to enjoy--keep in mind if the host is a man or a woman, and try to avoid overly strong scents to avoid a "scent mis-match."

How about a loaf of freshly made bread with a pretty ribbon? Most people find baked goods a delicious alternative.

If you know your host loves chocolate, gift them some after-dinner gourmet chocolates.

Is your host a coffee lover? Bring a pound of special coffee they can serve after dinner.

If your host is a reader, many find receiving a book a charming gift. If you're close, why not highlight some of your favorite passages that you think they'd find particularly compelling.

How about a holiday guest book that people can sign and comment about what fun they had after the party? They'll love reading this later.

Even a bag of great pasta with a jar of sauce that you love is a nice offering and makes for an easy meal for them to have the next day after all of their party planning.
