Prices for some of our basic necessities is continuing to go up during this pandemic. But we do have one bright spot on this list for consumers. Gas prices are still quite low compared to what we've been paying over the past 10 years. The average price for a gallon of gas is at $2.17 across the country. In 2010, we were paying $2.78 per gallon, on average.

But for most of the other things we need to buy, prices continue to creep up.

I am sure you have noticed beef prices have skyrocketed during this pandemic. We are now paying just under $5.00 a pound for ground beef. Beef2live reports the price is now at $4.74 up 28 cents from a month ago and up nearly a dollar a pound from a year ago. In 2010, we were paying month prior and up 93 cents from the same time last year. In 2010 we were paying $2.28 per pound for ground beef.

So what do we pay for milk these days? I'm not a milk drinker, but my son loves his milk so we've been buying it. The price per gallon averages $3.36 per gallon. We paid way more than that recently in Florida.  In 2010, we were paying about $2.00 a gallon for milk. That's a pretty substantial increase over 10 years.

Prices for potatoes are also up by about 33%. In 2010, we paid .52¢ for a pound of potatoes. That prices is now at .78¢.

If you are an egg lover, you have likely noticed a pretty good spike in prices. It's now about $3.09 for a dozen eggs. That's up from $1.47 in 2010. That's a 100% increase in 10 years!
