Seattle Hacker Arrested After Capital One Data Breach

100 million Americans have been affected by the massive data breach that targeted Capital One applicants. Paige Thompson 33, of Seattle, is what many people would call a dumb criminal. Thomspon who goes by the handle "erratic" took to the internet to brag about her achievement which made it easy for authorities to track her down.

Authorities claim Thomson, who is a software engineer is solely responsible for the hacking of Capital One systems. Thompson obtained the personal data of over 100 million people. According to Fox News, the Capital One hack appears to be "one of the biggest breaches of a big bank in history."

Paige Thompson is being charged with one count of computer fraud and abuse. According to the FBI complaint, Thomspson stole information which included credit scores balances, email addresses, birth dates, and self-reported income, and Social Security numbers. Most of of the hacked data were from small businesses who applied for credit cards between 2005 and early 2019.
