Texans Prepare to Pay More for Mega Millions Jackpot
If you're a Mega Millions player in Texas, you best be prepared for a price increase next year!
The odds of winning the jackpot are one in more than 302 million. The overall odds of winning any Mega Millions prize are 1 in 24. Still, everyday, Texans are hopeful that they could be the next millionaire!
The lottery is constantly tweaking its format, and it's actually been pretty good; the jackpot has reached one billion dollars six times already. Now, in an effort to generate more excitement, and bigger prizes a new change will be in effect this coming Spring.
The Mega Millions Consortium has announced that it is preparing for a "mega" overhaul, with plans for game enhancements coming April 2025.
The price of Mega Millions tickets is increasing from $2 to $5 in April 2025 to allow for larger and more frequent jackpots. This change is designed to attract more players and generate excitement by offering bigger prizes right from the start—raising the initial jackpot from $20 million to $50 million.
In addition to the price hike, the game will remove the Megaplier add-on and automatically include a multiplier on every ticket to increase non-jackpot winnings, further enhancing the appeal. These adjustments aim to drive higher revenue for lotteries and support the causes they fund.
Ultimately, it looks like you might have a better chance at winning something with this price increase, may the odds be ever in your favor!
Mega Millions is currently offered for sale in 45 states, plus Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are Tuesdays and Fridays.
