(Athens, Texas) - Saying that fishing is a popular sport in East Texas is a huge understatement. With all the lakes, big and small, in the area, it's easy to find a good spot to cast your line. One lake southwest of the Athens area has put itself back in the conversation of good lakes for bass.

Richland-Chambers Reservoir is one of the biggest reservoirs in Texas. It covers parts of Navarro and Freestone counties. Recently, a young fisherman out of Dallas was enjoying his time on the lake and hooked a big bass. Big enough to earn the title of Toyota ShareLunker.

Texas Lake Now Home to the Newest ShareLunker Bass

Dylan Sorrells of Dallas, a young but experienced fisherman, was enjoying some time on the Richland-Chambers Reservoir Sunday, January 26. He was looking for some brush piles in a particular area of the lake and saw a fish on his finder. He casted his line and brought in the record fish.

His 13.64 pound bass became the fifth ever Legacy Class bass caught on the reservoir. Dylan was able to contact the folks at the Toyota ShareLunker program and they were able to get to the lake within a couple of hours. The catch was confirmed and recorded.

Toyota ShareLunker Program

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Toyota Sharelunker Program launched in 1986 to help promote bass fishing in Texas. Anglers who have caught a bass on a Texas lake that is eight pounds or heavier, or twenty four inches or longer, can submit it in the Sharelunker program either through texassharelunker.com or through their mobile app.

All confirmed entrants will receive a Catch Kit that includes an achievement decal that corresponds to the fish's weight class, merchandise and other goodies. Entrants will also be placed in a drawing for a variety of prizes including a grand prize $5,000 shopping spree.

For those that donate their thirteen pound of larger catch for spawning will be entered in a separate drawing for a $5,000 shopping spree, VIP access to the Toyota ShareLunker Annual Awards and other prizes.
