Today's the day to get out and vote.

It's a great reason to get out of the office and stretch your legs for a bit.  And candidates in 22 races in Smith County are waiting for you to decide their fate.

Four candidates are running for Sheriff --  Bobby Garmon, Chris Green, Donn Rust and Larry Smith. One of them will replace retiring Sheriff J.B. Smith in January.

In order to win the election today, one candidate would have to get at least 50 percent of the vote.  Since it's a crowded field and a hotly contested race that's unlikely, a runoff will probably happen next.  That will be July 31.

For Smith County Commissioner, Incumbent Terry Phillips is up against challengers Jimmy Hawley, Ronnie Pilcher and Ed Watts.  A runoff may be necessary there too.

The polls are open today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Your vote counts!
