The Dallas Cowboys are Better Than This. Here’s How to Fix Them.
I have been a fan of the Dallas Cowboys for as long as I can remember. I remember when an oilman from Arkansas came in and bought America's Team. It didn't start out too well.
Eventually the team grew into a Superbowl champion team again in the early and mid-90's. But since the triplet's (quarterback Troy Aikman, running back Emmitt Smith, receiver Michael Irvin) left the field, the Cowboys haven't been the same.
Coach after coach has come in only to be handcuffed in some way. Great players have been added but never lived up their reputation. In other words, it's been a 20 plus year disappointment in Dallas.
Frankly, I'm tired of it.
I could go over all those disappointing years but you would be reading this article for five days and I'm not going to do that to you. I'm just going to focus on this season.
The Cowboys made some good moves the last couple of weeks. They traded for receiver Amari Cooper and fired their offensive line coach and promoted Marc Columbo to the position. Both moves should have had immediate results.
Nope. The offensive line still under performed and Scott Linehan still called a bad offense.
Here's what needs to happen to fix the Cowboys and get them back to winning Superbowls.
- Jerry Jones - Mr. Jones, you have to put aside your ego and bring in a proper general manager. You do not know football the way you think you do. Just be the owner and let the experts do the football stuff. And no, your son Stephen can't do it either.
- Scott Linehan needs to be fired immediately. His offense is crap. You have Dak Prescott and Zeke Elliot but can't move the ball down the field. And where are the big plays? Just be gone.
- The Cowboys defense is so much better. However, I think Rod Marinelli needs to take a step back. Your defensive scheme isn't good enough for today's teams. I like Kris Richard calling the defensive plays. I would like to see him as the full time coordinator and Marinelli just a consultant.
- Jason Garrett, look, you were a great backup quarterback to Troy Aikman in the 90's. I still remember your Thanksgiving game against the Packers. But the time has come for you to go back to being an offensive coordinator. The eight year experiment is over.
What do you think? Have I nailed it or am I just completely off my rocker?
