The first results of this year’s presidential election have just been released and it seems that the candidates are tied.

The polls opened just after midnight for the people of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, just as they have every election day since 1960. However, today’s outcome was the first time in history that their results ended in a tie: President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mit Romney each received five votes.

Dixville Notch has been a frequent subject of media attention for being the first place in the country to officially announce its voting results. The town has had 100 percent voter turnout ever since it began its first-in-the-nation voting tradition. With all 10 registered voters casting their ballots at midnight, it doesn't take long to tally and release the results.

In the last presidential election, the citizens of Dixville Notch voted for Obama, which was the first time they voted Democratic in 40 years.
