Top 10 Phobias Texans Can’t Shake—Do You Have One?
Let’s talk about something I am all too familiar with – phobias. Yeah, I have no problem admitting to having my fair share of fears, both rational and irrational.
When it comes to my particular phobias, I developed many of them as an adult. It’s one of those things where the older you get, the more stuff you see. The more things that I witness or hear of going wrong, the more I think about all the things that can go wrong, which, of course, leads to phobias.

So, I was very interested when I received a press release from the public speaking anxiety experts at AmberWillo detailing the results of a recent study to determine the most common phobias in Texas. And of course, I have several phobias that were ranked in the Top 10.
Top 10 Phobias in Texas
- Trypanophobia – fear of needles and injections
- Agoraphobia – fear of being trapped or in a situation that would be difficult to escape
- Phasmophobia – fear of ghosts
- Hypochondria – fear of illness
- Thalassophobia – fear of bodies of water
- Emetophobia – fear of vomiting
- Claustrophobia – fear of confined spaces
- Arachnophobia – fear of spiders
- Acrophobia – fear of heights
- Trypophobia – fear of holes
The big ones for me are agoraphobia, claustrophobia, and acrophobia. I’ve always been a bit agoraphobic and claustrophobic, but acrophobia is one that has only come about in the last ten years or so. Heights used to not bother me in the least bit. However, these days, my head starts to swim the minute I start climbing a ladder.
How about you? What phobias do you have? Shoot me an email or leave a comment on the Facebook page – unless you’re scared of social media, which doesn’t have an official name but is a very real thing.
