(Van Zandt County, TX) Law enforcement in North Texas made a traffic stop recently and it’s one of the more shocking traffic stops than you normally hear about.

According to WFAA, two men were pulled over for a traffic stop but after an investigation took place, they were found to have a total of 19 gold bars in total, the value of the gold was $250,000.

The Men Are Losing Their Gold Bars

The two men are Chinese nationals and were arrested after being pulled over on I-20. They were originally pulled over because they were following another vehicle too close.

The two men will not be facing any money laundering charges but have been turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement according to the Van Zandt County District Attorney.

What Will Happen to the Gold?

The gold from the traffic stop has been seized by law enforcement, the money from the gold will be used to pay for the men’s lawyer fees.

Any additional money from the gold will then be used for other law enforcement purposes.

The Gold is From Illegal Activities

According to DA Tonda Curry, she thought the gold came from illegal drug activity, but after further investigating she believes it’s from a group that defrauds the elderly with investment-type scams.

She believes they caught the mules, not the masterminds behind this horrible scam.

The two men admitted the gold didn’t belong to them; therefore, law enforcement can’t give them back items that don’t belong to them.

Each of the suspect’s attorneys received 12 ounces of gold as payment. The remaining gold worth approximately $195 thousand dollars will mostly go toward new vehicle purchases for lawyers and investigators in Van Zandt County.
