On Thursday morning, Amazon listed two Texas cities - Dallas and Austin - among 20 finalists for its second headquarters. According to The New York Times, Amazon HQ 2 could bring in about '50,000 high-paying jobs'.

Amazon's main headquarters located in Seattle consists of 33 buildings, 8.1 million square feet and over 40,000 employees. Any city with those kinds of numbers are going to benefit from that, which is why there were 238 applications from all over North America - now whittled down to the following 20 cities.

  • Atlanta
  • Austin, Texas
  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Columbus, Ohio
  • Dallas
  • Denver
  • Indianapolis
  • Los Angeles
  • Miami
  • Montgomery County, Md.
  • Nashville, Tenn.
  • Newark, N.J.
  • New York City
  • Northern Virginia
  • Philadelphia
  • Pittsburgh
  • Raleigh, N.C.
  • Toronto
  • Washington, D.C.

In their announcement, Amazon said they expect to make a final decision in 2018. I think we should send them some tacos and our best BBQ - maybe that would sway them out here.
