Amazing! Teenager Shoots Armed Intruder to Protect Siblings
Yahoo! News has a pretty amazing story posted about a 14-year-old Phoenix boy who acted quickly and did exactly what he was taught to do in order to protect his younger siblings. It was around 4:30 on Friday (6/22) afternoon when the boy, who was home alone with his 8-, 10- and 12-year-old siblings, heard the doorbell ring.
He didn’t recognize the woman outside the door, so he didn’t answer it. A few minutes later he heard a loud bang on the door, so he rushed the children upstairs and grabbed a handgun from his parents’ bedroom.
The boy shot a 37-year-old man who had broken into the house. The mad had reportedly pointed a gun at the teenager, who was at the top of the stairs. The suspect, who did not get a shot off, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He is being charged with aggravated assault and burglary.
The teen is being hailed as a hero for his quick actions and remembering his parents’ teachings to never open the door to strangers. Phoenix Police Officer James Holmes, said:
The police and indeed our community does not ever want to see a situation where a teenager of that age has to take a weapon to protect his family … but this young man did exactly what he should have done. I’m not sure he gave full thought about what he had to do. He just acted.
This is an amazing story, with a happy ending. I’m glad that the boy used his head and stayed calm under the circumstances.
