'American Idol' auditions are over, and now the contestants have been thrown into the heat of competition that is Hollywood Week. Tonight's (Feb. 7) episode focused on the solo performances by the boys. Next week, on Thursday night, eight more of the male contestants will be sent home. So no one is safe.

Here are the key singers who made it through and who face being chopped in a week. Hey, we never said 'Idol' wasn't an emotional roller coaster.

Paul Jolley: He was so nervous that it took him several minutes to launch into Carrie Underwood's 'Blown Away.' Once he shook off the nerves, he blew us out of our chairs. His defeated attitude irritated Nicki Minaj, but not enough to get sent home. He made it through.

Curtis Finch, Jr.: He's 24 and from Missouri, with a goal to reach and touch the hearts of people. He did so with an warm, rich, R&B version of Christina Perri's 'Jar of Hearts.' It was enough to get him through.

Lazaro Arbos: He delivered Lady Gaga's 'Edge of Glory' beautifully and he got a pass.

Devin Velez: This 18-year-old Chicagoan sang a loungey version of 'What a Wonderful World,' which is quite a popular standard on the show. He had such a buttery tone and perfect pitch, so of course we will see him again.

Gurpreet Singh Sarin: He sang 'Georgia on My Mind,' while playing guitar. It was absolutely amazing to listen to this singer who loves both modern music and classic Indian songs. He's interesting and unique, so he is moving forward to the next round.

Matheus Fernandes: Kelly Clarkson's 'Stronger' was his song choice, but he was, to borrow a judge's phrase, pitchy. Minaj told him not to "want a pity party" or to milk the fact that he is short. It was the end of the line for him, sadly. Next time, Matheus.

Nicholas Mathis: The 23-year-old big man from Chicago sang Bruno Mars' 'Locked Out of Heaven,' and dropped to his knees while doing so. He wants to provide for his kids -- feel good alert! -- and chase his dream. Keith Urban said he felt like Mathis was chasing a song. He didn't get to move forward and was sobbing (and mad) afterwards.

Papa Peachez: The flamboyant singer attempted Gaga's 'You & I' and it wasn't the right song choice. Minaj said his flame has burned out and had no idea why he chose that song. We agree. He didn't make it.

Jimmy Smith: He wowed with a rendition of Fleetwood Mac's 'Landslide.' He's going through to the next round.

Nick Boddington: He played keyboards and sang Grace Potter's 'Stars.' His beautiful voice reminded us of the Fray or even Gavin DeGraw. He's of that ilk. He made it all the way to Las Vegas last season, but that's where it ended for him. He lives to fight another week.

Charlie Askew: The teen, wearing a silky brown suit and blue sneakers, offered up a likable rendition of Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used to Know.' Minaj thinks he is special and is obsessed with him. He glorifies weirdness -- his words, not ours -- and he can sing. Yes, he's moving forward.

Burnell Taylor: He sang a so-pretty-it-hurts version of 'Jar of Hearts' and it was moving. His audition phase was better, but hey, he had like a minute here. Of course he got a pass, as well.

Micah Johnson: The singer, who has a speech impediment, sang Randy Travis' 'I Told You So' with a R&B power and heft. The big notes? Yeah, he slayed those. Dead. But he was sent home. Really? Really. He was gracious in defeat.
