TYLER - The first signatures were placed today on a petition calling for a vote this November on the legal sale of beer and wine in Tyler and Smith County precinct JP 2.

Numerous Road Closures are reported in East Texas this morning because of flood waters. The Texas Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety report the following road closures:
Steak Thief Sentenced to Two Years
HENDERSON — Albert Anthony Green, 44, has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing $50 worth of steaks from the Brookshire Brothers grocery store in Henderson. A Rusk County jury sentenced Green after he was convicted on the theft charge.
The jury considered Green's previous seven convictions, including three for felony theft, before handing down the prison sentence.
Capital Murder Suspect Sought in Child Death
MARSHALL – The Harrison County Sheriff’s office is investigating the death of a two year old girl that occurred Sunday morning. Authorities say the child who was unconscious was brought to the emergency room by her mother around 1:00 AM. Hospital staff were unable to revive the child who would’ve turned three years old February 21. The mother said she found her daughter, Yeli Madalyn Jimenez unconscious on the floor. An autopsy determined the child died of massive blunt trauma.
Wintery Weather in North Texas
TEXARKANA -- A wintery mix is making travel slow today for motorist on Interstate 30 between Dallas and Texarkana. The Department of Public Safety says some ice has formed on bridges and overpasses in Bowie County and several spots along the interstate. The Tyler-Longview areas will see just rain; no wintery mix is expected in the immediate area.
Search Continues for Missing Pilot at Lake Palestine
LAKE PALESTINE -- Divers are resuming their search today for a missing pilot of a small plane that went down in Lake Palestine on Wednesday night. Searchers discovered the plane yesterday in about 17 feet of water, the door hatch had been opened and the seat belt undone, according to State Troopers. The plane flew out of Jacksonville before it plunged into the lake. The pilot is believed to be the only occupant of the aircraft.
East Texas Man Arrested for Stealing Airplane
NACOGDOCHES — A man accused of stealing a plane from an East Texas airport hangar is jailed in Henderson County and being held without bond. Terry Lynn Boozer is charged with theft and evading arrest after Nacogdoches County deputies acted on a tip from an 8-year-old boy who found the plane at a private airstrip. Deputies recovered the plane and arrested Boozer after a short foot pursuit. The boy compared the numbers on the plane to stories posted online. The Cessna 182 was stolen Jan 28th from Athens Municipal Airport.

Amber Alert Issued for Missing Fort Worth Girl
FORT WORTH - The Texas Department of Public Safety has put out an Amber Alert for a missing 11-year-old girl Fort Worth girl, and authorities believe the girl was taken by her mother, 42-year-old Kimberley Smith.

WASHINGTON - Money to help about 1 million homeowners reduce their loans will soon be available. More than 40 states have agreed to a settlement with the five largest mortgage lenders. California and New York are among the states holding out but are said to be moving closer to backing a deal. The money available to homeowners could run as high as $25 billion if all states approve the deal.

Texas AG Accepts Redistricting Voting Map
SAN ANTONIO — The Texas attorney general has accepted a deal on temporary voting maps that could salvage the state's April 3 date for primary elections. In a statement released today, Attorney General Greg Abbott said that seven minority groups agreed to a plan that minimizes changes to the original redistricting maps drafted by the GOP-controlled Legislature. Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar's lawyer tells The Associated Press the plan gives Texas two new Hispanic congressional seats. But at least one major minority group isn't on board. Attorney Luis Vera of the League of United Latin American Citizens says the new plan "means absolutely nothing." A federal court gave the state and minority groups until Monday to reach a compromise, or see the primaries pushed back for a second time. The groups said the original plan was discriminatory.

WASHINGTON – There were less people out of work in January, dropping the unemployment rate to 8.3 percent, the lowest in nearly three years. The economy created 243,000 jobs last month, the most in nine months. Employers have added an average of 201,000 jobs per month in the past three months. More jobs and higher incomes should help consumers boost spending and increase economic growth.
